Rating stars show as "S"

I have been having this problem for a while. Suggestions on other sides, to insert the following code into the custom CSS did not work either:

.star-rating span {
font-size:1em;
font-style: bold;
font-family: “star”;
color: #006c00;
}

How can I change the ugly “S” to stars, as supposed to?
