Pagination and Product Permalinks

Greetings… we are trying to set the products permalink structure to custom. So instead of this url; http://www.mikaellabridal.com/product/style-2070/

We want http://www.mikaellabridal.com/collection/style-2070/

When ever we update this custom permalink than the pagination on the collections page shows as a 404. Can you let me know if this is allowed and how to set up a custom permalink?
